How to Use the Dream Box

box-logo

Dear Parents and Teachers,

Take this opportunity to open up a conversation with children about what makes them smile and feel happy. Share your own examples — what brought you joy when you were their age? For me, it was spending time by the lake and learning to cook with my nana, who was the best cook ever.

Once you’ve shared your story, invite the kids to think of three things that make them smile or feel happy. Encourage them to write those three things on one of the included 3×5 cards.

Next, talk about dreams — what they imagine for their future. When I was a child, I dreamed of living on a lake, owning my own business, writing a book, and surrounding myself with great friends. I’ve achieved most of these — except the book, which is still in the works!

Ask the children to think about their own dreams — what would they love to do or become? Have them draw, write, or print those dreams on the other side of the card.

Once they’ve shared, help them connect their dreams to school and learning. For example:

  • baker uses science and math.
  • president needs all subjects to be well-rounded.
  • Even Superwoman needs science to understand her powers!

Explain how learning today helps them build the future they dream about. Many Olympic medalists and successful people once created their own “dream boxes,” visualizing their goals and believing in them until they became real.

The stickers included are to keep and share — use a few for yourself, and pass others along to friends and family to make them smile too.
